The Cobblers

Northampton Town Football Club, affectionately known as The Cobblers, was founded by a group of local schoolteachers in 1897. The club shot to fame during the 1960s, when they became the first team to rise from the old Fourth Division to the First.

More recently, back to back trips to Wembley in 1997 and 1998 saw over 40,000 people travel from Northampton to London to support their team.

In the 1997 play off final, an injury time winner from left-back John Frain secured the team promotion to the then Division 2. Shortly after the victory, the team returned to Northampton with a memorable open top bus parade through the streets of the town.
