The Saints

Northampton Saints Rugby Football Club was established in 1880. They currently play in National Division One in their famous green, black and gold colours. They play their home games at Franklin’s Gardens, which currently has a capacity of 13,600.

In 2000, they defeated Münster to win The Heineken Cup. The team has been notable for producing a number of stars in particular Paul Grayson, Steve Thompson, Ben Cohen and Matt Dawson – who were all part of the England team that triumphed in the Rugby World Cup of 2003.

As a result of the contribution of the club to the town and, in recognition of their contribution to the World Cup winning team, they were given the Freedom of the Borough of Northampton in 2004.
