Conservative councillors at County Hall called a plan by the North Northamptonshire Development Company for a £1.3 milion campaign to re-brand Northamptonshire as 'North Londonshire' "demeaning and insulting" to the county.

Speaking in an emergency debate at Northamptonshire County Council, the Deputy Leader of the County Council, Cllr. Joan Kirkbride said, "Northamptonshire is a unique place and somewhere we need to be proud of, so we need to stop this nonsense saying it's a suburb of London. We know what we want to be, we're Northamptonshire and we want to remain Northamptonshire."
