The Conservatives on Northampton Borough Council are concerned for the future of the town's leisure centres after the Lib Dem administration announced plans to create a charitable trust to take over the operation of the Mounts Baths, Lings Forum and Danes Camp leisure centres.

Leader of the Conservatives at The Guildhall, Cllr. David Palethorpe said, "This will lead to the reduced subsidy of an essential service for the public, increased costs of entry and membership, and may inevitably lead to the closure of one, if not all three of the leisure centres."
