Northampton Conservative Councillors Join Big Sleep Out 2017

Northampton Conservatives have continued their long tradition of supporting the Hope Centre's Big Sleep out with 3 Conservative Councillors from Northampton Borough Council taking part. Councillor’s Stephan Hibbert (Cabinet Member for Housing), James Hill (Assistant Cabinet Member for Planning, Regeneration & Enterprise) and Mary Markham (Chair of the Audit Committee) will be participating this year.

Last year Conservative Councillors managed to raise over £1000 by supporting event. The sponsored Big Sleep out is organised annually by the Northampton Hope Centre and is the charity’s biggest fundraiser of the year.  Last over 130 sleepers took part and helped raise over £32,000. This year Northampton Hope Centre is hoping to raise even more funds and is in the process of recruiting people to take part for this event, which will be held at Abington Park. Councillor Tony Ansell has kindly offered participates the use of his Café toilet facilities and will also be providing hot drinks throughout the night.

James Hill said- “This will be my second year taking part in the Big Sleep Out. Despite only being out in the cold for one night the experience provides a real snapshot of what it is like for many of our homeless in Northampton. I am delighted to participate the event again this year and hopeful that more money can be raised.”
