Plans submitted for key new Northampton link road

Northampton Conservatives have continued with our commitment to improving Northampton's infrastructure with Northampton Borough Council announcing that plans have been submitted for the new St James Link Road by contractor Kier WSP.

Final site investigations are under way which will lead to more detailed designs in due course and site clearance is set to commence in the coming months.

The news follows the Council’s Cabinet support in January for KierWSP, Northamptonshire County Council’s approved highways contractor, to deliver the project.

Cllr Tim Hadland, Borough Council Cabinet member for regeneration, enterprise and planning, said: “We are making real progress on this vital transport link now we’ve managed to get past a number of issues over decommissioning of the rail line.

“We expect completion to be within the first half of 2019 and once the road opens it will be of enormous help to businesses within the Northampton Waterside Enterprise Zone.

“It will also help cut congestion on Saints and Cobblers match days, allowing traffic to access the area and disperse via Towcester Road.”
